About & Methodology
What is CivicaPR?
CivicaPR is a civic-intelligence platform for Puerto Rico. It brings public records into one searchable place so journalists, researchers, students, and residents can follow public money and understand how the government works: federal contracts and who receives them, government officials and their backgrounds, campaign finance, disaster-recovery funding by municipality, and related news.
Where the data comes from
Every figure on CivicaPR traces back to a public or official source, including:
- U.S. Census Bureau (ACS)
- USASpending.gov (federal contracts)
- OpenFEC (federal campaign finance)
- OpenFEMA (disaster declarations & recovery funding)
- NewsAPI & Brave Search (news)
- Wikidata (verified official facts & social handles)
How we use AI — responsibly
We use AI to summarize and structure information that already exists in cited sources — not to invent facts. Official profiles cite their sources, and verified personal details (such as confirmed social accounts) come from authoritative references like Wikidata rather than a model's guess. Where a fact cannot be confirmed, we leave it out rather than fabricate it. AI-generated summaries are clearly framed as such, and we surface the underlying sources so you can verify.
What we will not do
We do not publish private individuals' personal contact information, and we do not present unverified estimates as if they were established facts. CivicaPR is built to be a trustworthy reference — accuracy and transparency come before completeness.
